Jiaxing, both a National Excellent Tourism City and a National Garden-like City, is famous for its scenic environment and mild climate. With rivers and lakes here and there, Jiaxing is especially known for its water country, ancient towns, mountains, seas and tidal waves. Supported by history and culture, tourist sites such as South Lake, Xitang, Wuzhen, Yuehe, Meiwan Street, Yanguan Ancient Street, South-north Lake, Haining Tide, Mount Jiulong and Xiangjiadang contribute to the Jiaxing's unique characteristics of water country in the south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. At present, there are 7 National AAAA Scenic Spots in Jiaxing. They are South Lake, Wuzhen, Xitang, China Leather City in Haining, Tide Watching vantage in Yanguan, South-north Lake and East Lake.

In 2008, Jiaxing received a total number of 21. 9296 million foreign and domestic tourists and the total tourism income reached 19.312 billion yuan, an increase of 14.7% and 19.2% over last year respectively. Jiaxing received 529，600 tourists from overseas and the tourist income of foreign exchange amounted to US$ 189 million.
