Jiaxing has won some national titles as the National Hygienic City, "Double-support" Model City , Model Green City, Excellent Tourist City, and National Garden City. Since the reform and opening , especially in recent years, the city has witnessed vigorous development and palpable  improvement of its comprehensive strength . Statistics show that  in 2008, the GDP of Jiaxing reached 181.53 billion yuan, a growth of 10.7 %; the fiscal revenue totaled 25.213 billion yuan, the local fiscal revenue being 12.687 billion yuan, respectively increasing by 20.4% and 20.6%; the per capita disposable income of the urban residents was 22,481 yuan, the per capita net income of the rural residents was 11,538 yuan, with respective growths being11.7% and 13.5%; the CPI grew by 5.2%; the registered unemployment rate in urban areas was 3.5%; and the natural growth rate of population was -0.45‰.
